Our History

Chesapeake was founded more than 40 years ago by Grace Naomi Bittner, who taught traditional ceramic classes in her basement at her home outside of Baltimore. Naomi was so successful that her son, Jack, left the US Air Force in 1972 to take over the business. In the early 90s, as the first paint-your-own-pottery studios began to appear, Chesapeake Ceramics was the first US supplier to source a full container of bisque from Italy to meet the demands of this exciting new industry. Through the years, Jack continued to grow the business, which today ships products not only across the nation, but around the globe.

In 2007 Steve Prichett took over the business. Under Steve's leadership, Chesapeake's offerings have expanded to better meet the needs of the changing face of the contemporary ceramics industry by adding fusible glass and canvas painting supplies. Chesapeake Ceramics is proud to be the only supplier to offer officially licensed characters from Peanuts, Marvel, Hello Kitty, Angry Birds, and The Simpsons. Alongside these well-known characters many new, great bisque shapes continue to enhance our line. Chesapeake sells the most Mayco and Duncan glaze products in the industry, providing our customers a wide variety of choices.

In 2013, Chesapeake Ceramics acquired Ceramics Unlimited in Roseville, CA. The acquisition allows us to increase product selection in both locations and increase the shipping time for customers in the surrounding states.
